Out in the Cold

Despite the weather here taking a definite turn for the worse. No question about it being winter now. I have been trying to get out and run when I can.

Friday I wrapped up in extra layers and headed out. I have two routes that I take dependent on what the traffic lights are doing when I get there. Friday I did the slightly longer one. I had the route in my head with the plan that I could stop when I got to the library. Well the library came and I felt fine. I wonder if I can make it to the cemetery, I’ll probably have to stop there anyway because of the traffic. Nope, got to the cemetery and the green man was lit so I raced across the road and kept going. When I finally stopped RunKeeper was saying I’d done 3.79 miles. I am fairly pleased with that.

Saturday I went to parkrun. Boy was it cold. I knew it was going to be a bad one when I nearly slipped on a frozen puddle before I even got to the start line. Less than half way round the first lap and I knew it was going to be a case of just finishing rather than another PB. The cold air and the icy trail really got to me and I had to stop and walk a few times. Finally got across the line in 29:57 a good two minutes slower than last time, but not last. There were two people behind me.

Monday and Tuesday were a bit warmer and I was keen to get out as I had a new toy I wanted to play with. Bobby very kindly got me a Garmin Forerunner for Christmas and said I could try it out now to make sure it works. So try it out I did. Went out for 3.25 miles on Monday and an easy 2 miles yesterday. Seemed to have no trouble tracking me even when I went under the roundabout. One thing I have noticed is that I seem to slow down as I run so I now need to work on keeping my splits more even.

Next run will be on Thursday. Kind of looking forward to it now.
